November Recalls (Click here for Previous years) Chrysler 2007 Dodge Nitro> Failure of the windshield wiper system is caused by high usage of the variable pause wiper function. 2007-08 Jeep Wrangler made 06/2006 to 07/2008> Automatic transmission fluid can boil over into hot engine or exhaust causing a fire. Dealers will install a "Hot Oil" message in the instrument cluster and a chime indicating an elevated transmission fluid condition. Jaguar 2010 XF> Kinked fuel transfer pipe in the fuel tank causes fuel starvation at low fuel levels and subsequent engine stall. Mitsubishi 2008-09 Lancer, Lancer Evolution> Road salt corrodes and short circuits the front impact sensors resulting in improper front airbag deployment in a crash. Nissan 2009 Sentra> Bosch master cylinder leaks brake fluid which turns on the brake system warning indicator and increases stopping distances. Other Custom Chrome> Santee Bonanza Harley-Davidson motorcycle handlebars welds break causing the handle bars to separate. October Recalls Chrysler 2009-10 300, Challenger, Charger (rear wheel drive)> Front wheel spindle nut may not have been installed allowing the wheel to come off causing loss of control. Ford 1995-2003 Windstar; 2000-03 Excursion, 1993-97; 1999-2003 F-Super Duty; 1992-2003 Econoline, 1995-2002 Explorer, Mountaineer; 1995-1997 and 2001-03 ranger; 1994 F53> Texas Instruments speed control deactivation switch leaks internally and shorts out causing smoke, or catches the wiring harness on fire. Dealers will install a fused wiring harness for the switch and inspect the abs control connector and repair as necessary. General Motors 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe 1.8L> Engine crankcase condensation blocks the intake manifold vacuum port for the power brake vacuum booster causing loss of brake assist in extremely low temps. (Recall for Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, Wyoming). 2006 Cobalt, Saturn ION> (recall in Arizona and Nevada); 2007 Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Saturn ION (recall in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee Texas). Mazda 1995-97, 2001-03 B-Series Trucks made before 12/5/02> Texas Instruments speed control deactivation or ABS brake switch leaks internally and shorts out causing smoke, or catches the wiring harness on fire. Dealers will install a fused wiring harness for the switch and inspect the abs control connector and repair as necessary. Nissan 2008 Rouge; 2008-10 Infiniti M35, M45; 2009 Cube, Murano> Road salt corrodes the nut used to secure the TPMS sensor-transmitter and the tire will quickly lose air pressure. (Recall for Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC, West Virginia, Wisconsin). 2008-2009 Rogue> Steering gear housing cover comes loose causing sloppy steering response and if not corrected, the steering pinion shaft will come out of the steering gear resulting in a complete loss of steering control. Dealers will install a cover plate Toyota 2004-2009 Prius; 2005-2010 Avalon, Tacoma; 2006-2010 Lexus IS; 2007-2010 Camry, Lexus ES350, Tundra> Floor mat interferes with the throttle pedal causing it to get stuck in the wide-open position resulting in unattended acceleration. Owners are requested to remove the floor mat until Toyota figures out what to do to solve the problem. Volkswagen 2006-10 Audi A3, TT, TT Roadster made 09/29/05 to 09/26/09> Fuel tank vent valve doesn’t close properly and can leak fuel in a rollover or during extreme driving maneuvers. Motorcycles Panther: 2008-2009 P50, P150> Failure to meet DOT requirements for a parking brake, because it must be all mechanical and not dependent of hydraulic pressure. BMW: 2009 K1300 GT, K1300 S> Faulty handlebar-mounted multifunction directional signal indicator and on/off switch causes stall, no start, no shut off. Ducati: 2009 1098R, 1198S; 2010 F1098 Streetfighter> Fuel hose comes off the fuel pump causing stalling or gas leak. Qingqi: 2008 ZAP Xebra made 01 to 12/2008> failure to meet dot requirements for a separate brake fluid reservoir for the front and rear brakes. Triumph: 2005-09 Sprint ST 1050> Corrosion causes the rear suspension drag link assembly to break allowing part of the suspension to drop causing the rear tire mudguard to contact the rear tire, which could cause a crash. Other Qualis Automotive> Aftermarket ball joints sold for use on Chrysler 1995-2000 Cirrus; 2001-2006 Sebring; 1996-2003 Sebring Convertible; 1995-2006; 1995-2000 Breeze, Stratus passenger vehicles socket cracks near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load causing a complete loss of steering control. September Recalls Mitsubishi 2008-2009 Lancer Evolution, Ralliart, Sportback, Ralliart, w/turbocharged engines> Fixed portion of the fuel return pipe cracks and leaks fuel. 2010 Endeavor made 5/26 – 7/28/09> Poor welds on the seat-mounted side airbag frame retainer brackets for the front seatbacks prevents the airbags from deploying properly in a side impact crash. Nissan 2009 AND 2010 Altima, Maxima> Cracked front upper strut insulators allow the strut rod to come loose causing loss of control. Volvo 2008-2010 S80; 2009-2010 XC70; 2010 XC60> Software glitch causes the fuel pump to stop working resulting in vehicle no start or stall immediately after startup. Motorcycles Buell: 2009 XB12SS> Front brake line rubs on the front tire causing a brake fluid leak and loss of front brakes. Ducati: 2008 Desmosedici RR> Tail guard is too close to the exhaust and can melt snc catch fire. Ducati: 2010 F1098S Streetfighter> Electronic Control Unit ground screw comes loose causing the engine to stall. Honda 2002 VTX1800 made 8/14 – 10/4/01> Poor weld allows the swingarm to break causing loss of control. Yamaha: 2005 FJR1300, FZS600, YZF-R1 made 10/2004 – 4/2005> Failed throttle position sensor causes engine stall. August RecallsBMW 2009 Z4 30I, 35I made 03/10/09 to 03/19/09> Defective wiring crimp connector causes the seat belt tensioner to fail. Volkswagen 2009 Audi TT, TT Roadster, VW EOS; 2009-2010 Audi A3, VW GTI, Jetta, Sportwagen made 08-2008 to 09-2009> Faulty crimp connector in the wiring harness of a temperature sensor in the Direct Shift Gearbox causes the transmission to abruptly shift to neutral, the selector lever position indicator on the instrument panel will flash, and the "depress brake pedal" indicator light will be illuminate. Motorcycles BMW: 2006-08 R1200 GS> Water intrusion into the fuel pump housing causing the fuel pump to fail. July Recalls BMW 2008 1- & 3-Series Cars> Poor wiring crimp connection on the side air bag and belt tensioner wiring and the corresponding plug may causes increased electrical resistance and impedes proper operation of the airbag and tensioner system. 2009 X5, X6> Rear brake disc rotors are made of poor quality steel and cause poor brake performance or complete loss of braking is the rotor breaks. Chrysler 2007-08 Jeep Wrangler tow bars> Mopar tow bar P/N 82209758 can break allowing the towed vehicle to come loose. General Motors 2004-09 Colorado; 2009-04 Canyon; 2006 I-280, I-350; 2007-2008 I-290, I-370> (Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, new Mexico, Puerto Rico, south Carolina, Texas, Virgin Islands, Utah). Contaminated brake lamp switch causes loss of brake lamps or brake lamps staying on. Honda 2001 Civic, Accord> Driver's airbag inflator can rupture and propel metal fragments into the driver’s face. Hyundai 2005-2007 Elantra, Tucson, Sonata, Azera (Puerto Rico only)> Stop lamp switch keeps the brake lights on or doesn’t turn them on which prevents the cruise control from disengaging when the brake is pressed, prevents the transmission from being shifted out of park, and turns on the electronic stability control warning light to illuminate. Land Rover 2009 Range Rover> Improper windshield bonding to the body prevents the windshield from providing protection in a crash. Other symptoms include water leaks and increased wind noise. Subaru 2005-2006 Baja> Cracks in the fuel hose connection on the outlet pressure side of the fuel pump can leak gasoline and cause a fire. Volkswagen 2007-2009 Touareg> Fastening struts holding the roof edge spoiler can break causing the spoiler to come loose and detach. 2009 Routan> Owner's manual was printed without information explaining that no objects should be placed over the or near the air bag on the instrument panel. Motorcycles BMW: 2007-2009 R1200RT> Front brake lines develop a leak. Harley Davidson: 2009 FLTRSE3> Blade rear wheel accessory kits can crack resulting in wheel failure. Other Affinia Group> Fuel filters leak in the hose assembly and/or connectors. Filters were for replacements filters on 1998-2000 Chrysler Cirrus And Sebring, Dodge Stratus And Plymouth Breeze and sold under Carquest P/N 86523, NAPA P/N 3523, WIX P/N 33523. Airtex> Aftermarket fuel pumps, P/N E3944M sold for use on 1997 Saturn vehicles have the fuel return line and fuel vent line are reversed which allows fuel to drain from the tank in the event of a rollover. Fashtek Inc> HID headlight kits produce excessive glare to oncoming traffic and fail to meet DOT standards. June RecallsFord 2009 Expedition, Navigator> Improperly adjusted brake stop lamp switch prevents the brake lights from working. General Motors 2008 Saturn VUE> Paint on the outside door handles causes the latch to stick or bind preventing the door to latch. Dealers will replace the outside door handles with chrome door handles. Kia 2001-2004 Optima> (only in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, & District Of Columbia) Road salt corrodes the front subframe causing steering noises, tire misalignment and steering pull. Corrosion leads to the control arm forward mounting point breaking loose from the subframe and front wheel will hit the fender or wheel well causing a loss of steering control. Dealers will inspect the subframe, drill drainage holes, and apply rust-proofing material, or replace it if badly corroded. Toyota 2006-09 Sienna; 2004 Land Cruiser, 2009 Lexus GX> Incorrect GVWR load carrying capacity modification labels. 2009 Highlander, RAV4, Scion TC, XB, Sienna, Tacoma, Yaris; 2009-2010 Tundra> Fails to meet DOT requirements for having accurate load carrying capacity modification labels. Volvo 2008-2009 S80, V70, XC70> ECM software programming problem causes the engine cooling to stop working causing engine overheating and failure. Motorcycles, Scooters, Roadsters BMW: 2009 K1300 S, K1300 GT> Foaming brake fluid in the front reservoir causes loss of front brakes. Bombardier: 2008-2009 Can-Am Spyder Roadster> Excessive steering effort is needed to keep the vehicle from drifting out of lane causing steering overcorrection and deviation of the vehicle into another lane which increases the possibility of a crash with other traffic and or a drive off the road. Classic Motorworks 2009 Bullet Electra E-5, G5 Classic, Military, Deluxe> Lubrication problems caused by a tight fit result in the 3rd gear galling on the clutch shaft and seizing the shaft causing rear wheel lock up. Ducati: 2009 1198 S, 1098 R, AND F1098 S Streetfighter> Cracking of the right fork in the area of the wheel pinch bolt allows the wheel to come off. Harley Davidson> 2008-09 FLSTSB, FXSTSSE2, FXSTSSE3> The acorn stud at the brake reaction link comes off allowing the front brake and fender assembly to come loose. Piaggio: 2005-2008 BV 500 AND X9 500> Fuel filter to fuel pump hose comes loose causing engine stalling, fuel leak, and fire. Other M&O International> HID headlight kits produce excessive glare to oncoming traffic and fail to meet DOT standards. Tires Bridgestone/Firestone> FR380 TIRES P235/75R15, made 9-9-07 to 7-2-08 these tires are without tread base gauge. Kumho> Mohave A/T light truck all terrain LT225/75R16, LT245/75R16, LT265/75R16 made 12-7-08 to 06-13-09 tires handling performance becomes difficult when operated under loaded conditions or when changing lanes. Ford 2009 F-150 Trucks> Improperly adjusted brake stop lamp switch causes delay or loss of brake stop lamp illumination. General Motors 2008-2009 Pontiac G8> 1) Improperly programmed brake stop lamp switch causes loss of brake stop lamp illumination or continual brake light illumination. 2) Tire Pressure monitoring preprogrammed values allow the pressure to fall too low before warning the driver. 2009 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade Hybrid, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe, Tahoe Hybrid, Colorado; GMC Yukon, Yukon Hybrid, Yukon Xl, Canyon> RTV seal for the Fuel System Control Module leaks and allows water intrusion into the module causing a short or open circuit resulting in engine stall or no start. Dealers will replace the module. 2009 Chevrolet Traverse> Failure of the parking brake cable link connector allows the shift lever is to be left in some position other than the park position, resulting in unintended vehicle movement. 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V8> Positive battery cable shorts against the starter motor causing a dead battery, no start, or possible electrical fire. Hyundai 2002-2003 Sonata> Cracked chrome plating on the upper edge inboard and outboard surfaces of the door handle may inflict laceration injuries to anyone using the door handle. Jaguar 2007-2009 XK> Tire Pressure Warning System was turned off with the run flat tires installed at the factory. Mazda 2009 Mazda3> Improper operation of the dynamic stability control causes it to fail to meet DOT safety standards for yaw (tip over) control. Nissan 2003-2007 Murano> Plastic air intake ducts which connect to the intermediate resonator in the engine air intake system shrink and come loose causing engine stalling. Toyota 2008 Highlander, Highlander Hybird> Clamp holding the exhaust tip cracks allowing the exhaust tip to fall off the vehicle causing a road hazard. Volkswagen 2006-2009 Jetta (5TH Generation) 2.01 ENGINE> Improperly made driveshaft cover plate screws come loose allowing the driveshaft to detach from the gearbox and damage the housing allowing gear oil onto the road causing danger to other drivers. Note: The condition is preceded by a knocking sound. Motorcycles Big Dog: 2005 Ridgeback> The rear wheel may crack under certain operating conditions causing loss of control and a crash. Dealers will inspect the wheels and owners are advised to return for a free inspection every 2,500 miles. BMW: R1200 GS Adventure> High engine speed combined with large demand for electrical current causes loss of electrical signals from the ABS pressure sensors resulting in the ABS control unit turning off with subsequent loss of ABS function. Ducati 2009 1198, 1198 S, 1098 R, 848; 2010 F1098 Streetfighter, Streetfighter S> Fuel line plastic fitting connecting to the fuel injector leaks gas causing engine stall or engine fire. Ducati: 2008 Desmosedici RR> Incorrect routing of the main wiring harness causes unexpected loss of function of electrical systems or loss of engine performance increasing the risk of a crash. Honda: 2008 CBR1000RR> Failed hose clamp on the water pump cover allows hot coolant to spew on the riders left lower leg and scald the rider. Qingqi Group: 2008 ZAP Xebra> Fail to meet DOT stopping distance requirements. Note: Remedy and notification schedule hasn’t been determined by the manufacturer. Other Dope Inc> Combination corner and bumper headlamp lamp assemblies don’t contain amber side reflectors and fail to meet DOT standards. Gnu Inc> HID headlight kits produce excessive glare to oncoming traffic and fail to meet DOT standards. Mozo LLC> HID headlight kits produce excessive glare to oncoming traffic and fail to meet DOT standards. Vertex> HID headlight kits produce excessive glare to oncoming traffic and fail to meet DOT standards. Yakima Quickback> Trunk mounted bike racks P/N 8002621, 8002622 top straps attaching the rack to the vehicle may detach when one or more bicycles are mounted on the rack. April Recalls Chrysler 2001-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee> Front seat electric heater elements could overheat and cause a fire. Note: This also covers Chrysler recall NO. 06V-197 for seat heater elements replacement. 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty> (salt belt states Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia , Wisconsin And The District Of Columbia). Front suspension upper control arm ball joint lubrication is lost allowing corrosion, accelerated wear, and failure of the ball joint to stay together resulting in loss of steering. Dealers will replace the front upper control arm assembly. 2009 Dodge Journey, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler> Reversed wiring on the steering column for the airbag control module prevents the airbag from deploying in a crash. General Motors 1997-2003 Buick Regal; 1998-2003 Chevrolet Lumina, Monte Carlo, Impala; 1998-99 Oldsmobile Intrigue; 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix 3.8L V6 naturally aspirated engine> With hard braking some engine oil runs below the heat shield and drips on the exhaust manifold causing an engine compartment fire. Dealers will remove the spark plug wire retention channel at the front of engine and install two new spark plug wire retainers. Hyundai 2001-2003 Elantra; 2003 Tiburon> (only in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, & District Of Columbia) Road salt corrodes the lower control arms causing the steel to become perforated where the ball joint attaches and where the arm attaches to the chassis and if the steel breaks, the wheel will fall away from the vehicle causing complete loss of steering control. Dealers will inspect the control arms, drill drainage holes, apply rust-proofing material, or replace them if badly corroded. 2001-2003 Sante Fe> (only in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, & District Of Columbia) Road salt corrodes the rear trailing arms causing the steel to become perforated where the arm attaches to the chassis and if the steel breaks, the vehicle will drop down lower, the tires will become misaligned causing steering pull and quickly wear out the tires, and the wheel will fall away from the vehicle causing complete loss of steering control. Dealers will inspect the trailing arms arms, drill drainage holes, apply rust-proofing material, or replace them if badly corroded. 2001-2004 Sonata; 2001-2004 XG300, XG350> (only in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, & District Of Columbia) Road salt corrodes the front subframe causing steering noises, tire misalignment and steering pull. Mazda 2010 Mazda3> Engine wiring harness rubs and grounds out against the starter motor causing engine stalling, shift problems, a blown main fuse with a no-start condition. Motorcycles BMW: R1200 GS Adventure> High engine speed combined with large demand for electrical current causes loss of electrical signals from the ABS pressure sensors resulting in the ABS control unit turning off with subsequent loss of ABS function. Harley-Davidson: 2008 Buell 1125R, 2009 XB12R, XB12SEG> Front brake line rubs on the front tire causing a brake fluid leak and loss of front brake. Tires Bridgestone: Exedra G850 G 180/70R16 77H> Rear tire installed on 2008-09 Triumph Rocket III touring motorcycles suffers from torque-induced degradation of the body ply which results in inner liner cracking, air leak, and vibration at high speeds. Other Thule Roof-Mounted Racks> Kits P/N 3068 and 3069, USED podium foot packs P/N 460 AND 460R contain faulty securing bolts that snap off allowing the rack to come off and create a road hazard. Note: The racks were sold aftermarket for installation on various Mazda and Subaru vehicles. Sabersport combination corner and bumper lamp assemblies> Sold in the aftermarket for most passenger vehicles, the lamps fail to conform to DOT requirements because they aren’t fitted with amber side reflectors. Yakima Quickback, P/N 8002621, 8002622> Trunk mounted bike racks top straps attaching the rack to the vehicle may detach when one or more bicycles are mounted on the rack. March Recalls Chrysler 2002-2009 Dodge Ram> Replacement windshield wiper module P/N 55077098AJ, allows water intrusion that causes the wiper system to fail. 2009 Dodge Journey> Unused electrical connector for the optional 115 volt auxiliary power outlet option becomes corroded and shorts out causing an electrical fire. Note: The 25 Amp fuse for this circuit does not blow. 2009 Dodge Ram 2500, 3500 heavy duty cab with FTE manual transmission and power adjustable pedal package>Cutch pedal connecting rod comes loose from the master cylinder preventing disengagement of the clutch. General Motors 2009 HUMMER H3T> Failed fuel tank front support strap allows the fuel tank to come off the vehicle. 2009 Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Malibu, Traverse, GMC Acadia, Pontiac G5, G6, Saturn Aura, Outlook> Loose transmission shift cable adjustment clip causes the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear to not match up allowing the ignition key to be removed while the transmission gear isn’t in "park" and the vehicle could roll away. February Recalls Chrysler 2009 Sebring, Dodge Avenger 2.4L> Dash instrument display for the gas gauge reads high resulting in the car running out of fuel when the gauge still shows there’s fuel. These problems prevent proper carburetor function resulting in engine flooding, hard starting, poor performance and fuel leaking from the carburetor. Suzuki: 2005-2006 GSX-R1000> Frame cracks/breaks from repeated hard landings from wheelies or other stunts. Dealers will replace the frame if cracks are found, otherwise a frame reinforcement brace will be attached to the frame using bolts and epoxy adhesive.
